Boudoir photography today is sensuous rather than erotic…trending towards lighting and technique over complete nudity.
You don’t have to be a Supermodel to enjoy Boudoir photography…an ordinary Mum with two kids should ENJOY the experience being a supermodel for a day.
Don’t get nervous about the Tums & Bums… Boudoir photography is about the suggestion of nudity, once you have seen a couple of demo shots…your confidence will start to shine…there is no time like the present…you won’t get this time back again…so it’s important to capture yourself at your best.
Boudoir photography may, in some cases, be distinguished from other photography genres such as glamour photography, fine art nude photography and erotic photography.
According to research carried out in Digital Boudoir Photography (2006), John G. Blair said that the word “Boudoir” or “Boudoir portrait“, was used in 1980 by Motherlode Photography Studio in California to describe a picture more elegant than “erotic portrait” or “semi nude portrait”.
Boudoir photographs are more than pictures, and it’s important for the photographer to understand that. Anyone who takes these types of pictures must understand the client is looking for the very best you can produce in a picture meant to be sultry, inviting, classy, intimate and beautiful. Boudoir photography is not pornographic or erotic as some people believe. In fact, not everyone can manage this photography style because you have to be able to convey beauty and sensuality without stepping over the line into blatant eroticism.
Play music during the shoot. A lot of great boudoir photographers do this anyway, without question. This is something to ask beforehand, and if your photographer doesn’t bring music, bring your own!
Find pictures and poses you like, first. Have an idea of what to do when you go in there. If your photographer gives you further direction, listen up! They know best, and you’ll thank them later when you see how awesome that really awkward-feeling pose looks, in the end.
If your nerves get the best of you, bring a friend. No, not in the room during the shoot… because that may be weird! Have someone come with you and wait in the hotel lobby. If your photographer has a problem with you walking there with someone… think twice about doing the shoot with them in the first place.
Boudoir photography is tasteful, sensuous and here to be enjoyed…pamper yourself
Have your own stylist for the day (one of your friends may be a hairdresser/STYLIST)…get some nibbles…champagne…music…enjoy the day and impress ALL your friends/husband with your “new look” and for God’s sake…get a print done…A LARGE ONE!!!!
All this in ONE DAY… and you are not even a Supermodel….but you will FEEL like a Supermodel for sure
